Summative Reflection

Over this course I have grown and succeeded as a writer.  Reflecting on each of my major assignments; such as the Discourse Community, Writing Constructs, and Portrait of a Writer essays I can see my progress throughout the semester. Within these major assignments it is clear how my writing matured. Throughout these essays my grammar, use of vocabulary, and structure grew stronger.  With my ePortfolio, you can view each of my essays and see how my writing changed and transformed. The ePortfolio displays all of these assignments in an organized and structured format.  This online source provides a visual of how I improved and changed throughout English 1101. Within each essay it is apparent how I began to include stronger words and organize my essay in a more logical and attractive order. I also began to include headings to make my essay easier to read.  Within each essay I began to revise more often and correct both major and minor mistakes.  After learning and reflecting on the Discourse Community assignment, I now realize how sharing common goals and characteristics in a community are very common and benefit our world. Understanding Mirabelli’s article has opened my eyes to why a person may or may not be the way they are. My biggest accomplishment in the course was learning to include specific articles in my writing. In the assignment Writing Construct, I used several articles such as “Does Texting Hurt Your Grammar” and “How Slang Affects Students” to use insightful quotes and further my argument on the subject. Overall both the ePortfolio and all of the major assignments played a vital role in my writing progress and success.
